Sense of respect

Had a case presentation session with a doctor. There were a few interruptions of the medical officers (MO) since he had just come back from a long leave and needed to make things clear. MOs were supposed to report to him regarding patients' conditions and problems.
.
Heard of a rumour that this doctor is way too "strict" to MOs and HOs (house officers) until I saw it with my own eyes and confirmed it. The poor MOs were standing in the midst of us, medical students, being yelled and commanded at. The doctor was too, cracking sarcastic joke there after which to me, was not funny at all. I would say, with words that hurt, with his expression that insulted. The MOs could do nothing but stood and nodded helplessly.
.
Was thinking to myself, what if that happens to me in the future? I guess I will hold back tears, take deep breath, obey and nod too. Is it not the way responding to superior? It hurts. Even if one's work done is not satisfying, I wonder if there is a more constructing way to correct or request.
.
I did not enjoy the learning session. Perhaps I had prejudice towards that particular doctor. I apologize for being too jugdemental at times. Okay, had enough ranting. Last word, treat people as the way you want to be treated.

Training in progress

Orthorpaedics has been busy! The past few days had achieved record breaking for 2 things, three scheduled case presention sessions to 3 different doctors in a day, and the longest standing hours from 8am to 6pm for 2 days continuously, including the pathetic short lunch and driving time.
.
As a result, I had bilateral knee pain, heels pain and muscle ache. Can't imagine how a houseman's life going to be like since a few days for me are enough to prove my aging process. To make matter worse, a sudden squad at the end of the day brought about multiple crepitus all over the circled joints below. Luckily I sustained no strain or sprain.

Stress started to pile up, not because exam is around the corner. Having known my own flaws each day, my knowledge and skills are below the par of what is expected. The limited things that I know has slowly slipped away. Huh, stressed! I need to work harder, on my discipline and time management too. Training is in progress, I must get through!

You, as a rainbow

Friends are like rainbow.
Nice to have, good to behold.
.
I love rainbow, and treasure rainbow.
Haplessly for temporary it will go.
.
Still, after the rain there'll be rainbow.
Friend in need is friend indeed, I know.

A break from workloads

I am going mad! Meeting datelines of 4 reports, 1 audit, 1 clinical exam and re-outlining research data end of this week. I feel the weight upon me. Each breath is heavy...
.
It's my own fault, putting things last minute. Took few long weeks to get over with my holiday fun. By the time I am on my toes, here comes exam! Oh no, I prepare a null...
.
Anyway, was out to Sakthi's belated birthday bash leaving aside the piles of workload I have. Here we were in the usual birthday celebration spot, Jaya Jusco Seremban.
.
Specially ordered egg-free birthday cake, written Happy birthday pretty!

Free birthday pizza from Pizza Hut for the birthday girl.

Being the birthday girl meant she couldn't escape from being questioned one by one. All secrets were drained dry by us. For your information, watch out for Harv if she happens to be in your birthday party. She is good in prying secrets :)

All the best to Sakthi as you continues to pursue your study and life partner. May you be showered with abundant blessings and live happily ever after. Happy birthday!

GP posting, done!

General practitioner (GP) may be what I'll end up to be one day. I'm glad to have completed the one week attachment in a clinic near my house. Thanks to Dr. Tan, who was willing to share his experience of being a GP for more than 20 years with me despite his hectic patient flow. I gained a lot, in term of medical knowledges as well as the ethical and social issues.
.
A GP can be equated to a bussinessman plus a doctor. It takes skills to manage administrations, budgeting consultation fees and medications for different individuals. Patients can present with any complaint ranging from a massive bleeding hand, loss of consciousness to symptoms of all possible systems of the body.
.
Am I ready for questions posted by patients pointing at any part of their bodies?
.
The fun of attaching a familiar place was, seeing a lot of familiar faces. I met 3 ex-schoolmates in 2 days. Most of them had forgotten who I am and too bad didn't manage to talk to them. Could also recognize the green grocer from the nearby market and the pan mee sellor. The first question most patients were asking the doctor was: "Your daughter ah?"
.
All in all, I had a good time though I was expecting a more relaxing week. The long working hours consumed most of my time and what I was left with was only time to sleep. And now, GP posting done! Here comes report... I need my discipline back!

Tribute to mummy

A child was bornt in one evening 24 years ago. You said I took you the longest to deliver as I am your first born. I thank you for underwent so much pain to deliver me.

When it came to the anniversaries of my birthday, you cooked, prepared and got yourself in all the clean and wash ups just for me to invite my friends to the parties. I never bother to ask if you needed helps.

I remember you tailored me a dress with three quarter sleeve where grandma said I looked old on that. I should not have complained but to appreciate you. Thank you for tailoring me so many new dresses on each occasion.

You enrolled me to many courses, hoping that I can be somebody skillful one day. I’m sorry I did not appreciate and waste your money and thought. If I would turn back time I would learn it from the very beginning with efforts.

When I was in primary school, I was always grateful that I could see you bringing me food during recess time. Thank you for coming to the school, sending and picking me daily regardless of sun or rain.

I threw tantrum and ran away from home when I was ten. You found me in the playground opposite our house then pinched me on my ear and scolded me. I’m sorry I should not have made you worry.

I tried to fight with you using hanger where you canned me terribly to bruises when I was thirteen. I knew you put lotion on me that night when I was sleeping. Sorry mummy for being so rebellious.

When I was Form 3, I was blessed to have home cooked meal ready for lunch everyday I came back from school. I miss the "zai er" you fried. I haven’t even said a “Thank you” yet.

It was towards the end of Form 3 where you had to leave Malaysia. I knew it wasn’t an easy decision you made. We didn’t send you off, you must have gone all alone in tears. We too, were missing you dearly in tears.

You asked me to take good care of brothers and sisters. I did mummy! But it’s after you left only I realized how difficult it was looking after us and managing a house. Thank you for being so patient with us through out these years without a word of complains.

I had a bad news regarding you to break on the phone 4 years back. I was really sad but you were strong enough to comfort me. I could hardly say anything but sob. I am grateful for a strong mother like you.

You were suspecting a growth in your body and told no one but me. I remembered you in prayers and knew Father God would definitely protect you. Do take care of your health always.

When I failed my exams and felt sorry to disappoint you, you were the one encouraging me, saying you were proud as I’d given my best. Thanks mummy for being understanding. I will continuously give my best and honour you one day.

I had acne attack and you were concerned to buy me cosmetic products and supplements all the way from New York. You called me regularly to check if my pimples got any better. I was touched and couldn’t say enough thank you for being such a caring mum.

I receive a birthday card from you yearly without fail. It was always lovely to read back the messages you wrote. Thank you mummy.

You were buying and transporting too much stuff to us and got scolded by dad. I agreed the money could be put in better use but I appreciate it as a way of expressing your love. Thanks mummy, for the things you bought for us.
.
When you had troubles in the place far away, you kept saying you were fine but I knew it all from aunty. Mummy we've all grown up and would really like to share your burdens with you. Do tell us how you've been right there.

Mummy, it is never easy to be a mother of five and underwent so much of hardships. Thanks for raising us up and never gave up on us in spite of all circumstances. I pray God will guard you with His peace and grant you good health. As a promise, I will study hard and in the future, to share the joy of graduation with you. Thanks mummy, for everything you have done. You're always in my heart. Love and miss you so much, Happy Mother’s Day!
