Sayonara

A goodbye to a few significant matters:

- Goodbye Semester 8! Ended yesterday with a badly performed examination. So much more to buck up!

- Goodbye to most of my group mates whom I have been with for the past 1.5 years. Going to start working with a lot of new faces in the new semester. It had been fun being in the midst of you! And to my subgroup members, nice having you guys too though things could have been better. I know some are going to laugh at our group picture here, it isn't a faction picture okay.

- Goodbye to the Semester 10-to-be. Congrats for making it through, and thanks for sharing the joy. Result was released 2 hours prior to my exam yesterday and I couldn't read up more as I was so overwhelmed with the SMSes, one happier than another. Although I wasn't the one taking the exams, I just felt grateful.

A tad emotional upon lossing my makan kaki, sharing partner, jogging buddies and tutor. Gonna miss you guys! But well, all the best in Batu Pahat! Strive not just to be a good medical student but a good doctor. God bless you.

All exams are over now and our uni is people-free. Happy holidays pals! Woohoo~

Accident and Emergency

In my 2 weeks rotation of a brief exposure to Accident and Emergency, there's this patient I'll not able to forget.

A 43-year-old single mother who was brought in unconscious sustained from skull fracture with visualized brain matter crushed into pieces by axe, multiple strikes. Pupil was dilated unilaterally, non-reactive with a Glascow coma scale of 3. She was massively stained with blood. A few of us approached and did the basic life supports as we could.

By turns, I was bagging the resuscitation mask and cleaning off the blood stain on the patient. She had got a slash on her face too. And what shocked me was, the flesh of her tip of nose could flap open upon a wipe. Gosh, how to treat her? Is there any way the brain matter can be patched back? Pressing on her nose, I could only say a prayer.

Unfortunately, miracle did not take place. She passed away on the same day of admission after an 18 hours strive. I felt sad. Not solely on her decease, but for her daughter who is not able to experience mother's love again. Sad for the action of human being which was so cruel and irrational. It's a human's head, not a pumpkin! How could one able to lay an axe on it without giving a second thought! And the murderer who robbed was her very own lover!

Another young chap, brought in unconscious. I gave few taps on his arm routinely, calling "Encik, encik". He was unresponsive. Without safety precaution of wearing gloove, I removed his jacket by which I found my hand was blood stained before I ran to get gloove. All tools to set line were ready. The cardiac monitor showed a flat line. Yes he was pulseless, his chest wasn't expanding. Unknowingly, I was actually dealing with a dead body.

Accident and Emergency department isn't as dramatic as those seen in the television, but everything done needs to be fast and precise! The rate of patients wheeling in and out is fast too. Same goes to the speed of one's heart stop beating.

I see how fragile life is.

Silver for Malaysia

I am not an Olympic fanatic. Knowing a Malaysia representative made it through badminton final, the minimal thing a Malaysian can do is to give a trans-television support.

The short 39 minutes match wasn't as exciting. Lee Chong Wei was too small a competitor to Lin Dan. Each smack was grabbing away his confidence. The stressful match left behind disappointment to himself and some of his supporters.

But hey, we have got the first silver! He emphasized to be back for London Olympic 4 years later. Good spirit he has.

Well done Chong Wei!

- Happy birthday Kexin! -

Being expressive

From what I have been observing, girls are generally more expressive than that of guys. Be it emotionally, verbally or in action. Not convinced? Let me give an example. If you are to ask a guy and a girl "How are you?", the answer is pretty much predicted.

Guy: "Fine." or "Okay la."

Girl: Before being questioned, she will start telling the prelude of the story to the end with much feelings involved.

It isn't always a bad thing being inexpressive. At least it serves as a good excuse when things don't turn out right, consolation will say "What to do, guys are like that..."

Sometimes it isn't a good time to be inexpressive when it involves heart breaking, or leaving someone in speculations.

I am not putting down guys as whole, there are exceptions. Girls too can be inexpressive vice versa. Would like to understand more if guys themselves think they aren't expressive enough as well? What's the draw back? Or if you can prove me wrong, please do. Criticisms are welcome.

It is always good to recollect old memories and catch up with long lost friends. The annual reunion brings me some drastic changed faces always. All of them started working except me, some are earning big bucks and driving big cars, one got married even! I have none of the above.

I shall proudly announce "I've completed my studies!" on the next reunion, hopefully. Glad to know everyone is doing well, keep it up peeps!

Medical students in medical congress

If you scroll through the pictures taken below. I assure you that only medical students will snap pictures in such conference like what I did. Enjoyable :)

The 42nd Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine was held in Shangri-La Hotel for the past 4 days. It was a wonderful experience, an eye opener indeed being able to sit in the midst of the doctors and datos for the informative talks. I was impressed by their punctuality, even lunch time was exactly an hour!

My stress alleviated instantly when I heard that we need not actually standby our research poster to answer questions or present. Here we are with our production.

From the left: Wan, me, Shian Feng, Khung Ying. Missing Safwan, another team mate.
In one of the conference hall...
When the cam-whorers come together... The "close" button pressed by FengY didn't really stop the door from opening. Hopefully there was no CCTV in the lift. Note the shoulder full of goodies' bags we've got.
The ash bin. "S" stands for Shangri-La. My attires matched the colour themes of the dining hall coincidently for 2 days!
Here comes the exciting part... Yummy!
I declare an official closing to my research project, which was supposed to end a year earlier.

Despite the tedious travel, tiredness and the constant amount of caffeine I pumped in daily, I had a good time in the congress! The experience is made wonderful by good companies, great talks, nice goodies and fabulous food.

Did I mention I didn't have enough time to eat?
